The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has called on the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) to make efficient use of the available human resources in the hospital.
The Minister made the call while on familiarization tour of the hospital.
Osagie said that shortage of staff is not peculiar to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital adding that the Department of Human Resources should look for where there is large number of staff and pick some, train them to perform multiple tasks.
The Minister urged the hospital management to work with others relevant health institutions to develop man power needs of the hospital.
The Minister also called for collaboration and cooperation between the Teaching Hospital and Federal Medical Centres stressing that a strong hospital like Aminu Kano Teaching hospital should render technical assistance and mentorship to other Federal Medical Centres in the region .
While commending the Union Leaders of the Hospital for their patience he assured that the federal government is working relentlessly to resolve all the lingering crises in the health sector.
“There is on-going discussion to address issues that you have brought up, most of which predated this regime, we are trying to understand how they came about and proffer lasting solutions to all of them”, he assured.
In his remarks the Chief Medical Director, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Prof. Aminu Zakari Muhammad said that the Hospital which has 700 bed capacity, 2200 permanent Staff has over 150 Consultants in differespecialities.
The Minister used the opportunity of the tour to pay courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abudullahi Umar Ganduje and the Emir of Kano, Alh. Muhammad Sanusi
